DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's golf is leading the field after one round of play at the University of Lynchburg's Hill City Invitational hosted at Boonsboro Country Club on Monday. Averett junior Jorgen Buskbjerg shot a 3-under-par 69 to put him in first place after 18 holes.

Ranked No. 22 in the country, Averett shot a combined 16-over 304 to put the Cougars atop the leaderboard by three strokes over Methodist University in thr 10-team field. The Averett golfers are in the top 10 after one day of play at the two-day event.

Buskbjerg leads his teammate, freshman Elias Haavisto, by two strokes entering the final round. Haavisto, ranked fifth nationally, shot a 1-under 71 on the par-72, 6,801-yard course to put him in second. Freshman Caleb Kimbrough is tied for 10th at 8-over. Senior Michael Allen had the other counted score for Averett with a 12-over 84. Freshman Jeff Scott also completed, shooting a 15-over.

The final round begins on Tuesday.
