FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Averett University men's tennis finished competition at the ITA Fall Regionals on Saturday afternoon at the University of Mary Washington.
On day one the Cougars were led by junior
Jorge Figueroa who moved into the sweet 16 of the championship singles tournament winning in straight sets in each match. Figueroa then fell in the round of 16 the following day 6-2, 6-2.
Also in the championship singles, freshman
Martinho Goncalves picked up a win in his first round matchup 6-0, 6-4, before falling in the second round.
In championship doubles consolation freshman
Martinho Goncalves and sophomore
Rufus Nurminen picked up a win 8-5.
The Cougars are back in action when it host Division II Catawba College on Oct. 16 for a 2 p.m. start.
