DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's soccer team struck for three second half goals to cruise to a 5-2 victory over Pfeiffer University on Tuesday in USA South Conference action.
Averett (5-6, 1-1 USA South) wasted no time getting on the board in Tuesday's conference clash as freshman
Ethan Sternberg played a cross into the box that senior
Baste Endresen blasted to the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage with just 22 seconds elapsed off the board.
The Cougars increased their advantage to 2-0 with a goal in the 21st minute when freshman
Moises Garcia tallied his first collegiate goal off an assist by sophomore
Rion Klaas.
Pfeiffer (3-6, 0-2 USA South) got on the board with a penalty kick goal in the 36th minute and managed to even the game a 2-2 with an early second half goal.
However, Endresen tallied his second goal in the 54th minute off Klaas's second assist, firing a shot from 20-yards out that found the back of the net for the eventual game winner.
Sophomore
Agustin Jaraba struck for the first of his two second half goals in the 62nd minute, the first coming off a beautiful pass from senior Lluc Pou that was played from the opposite 40-yard line that Jaraba needed just one touch to slip past Pfeiffer's charging keeper.
Jaraba added an exclamation point to his second goal of the evening as senior Ty Michelson played a ball right to the sophomore's feet that allowed him to strike for a left footed goal just outside the 8-yard box.
The Cougars finished with a 16-9 shot advantage and made the most of their seven shots on goal with five goals.
Averett returns to action on Saturday when it battles William Peace University on the road in Cary, North Carolina at 7 p.m.
