CARY, N.C.
— In the 2021 season opener, the Averett University women's soccer team fell to William Peace University, 4-0, at WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday afternoon.
Averett (0-1, 0-1 USA South) created nine shots total in the game but only put two of those on goal. Freshman goalie
Alyson Kinkopf had seven saves in her first collegiate start. The Cougars only created two corner kick opportunities where as the Pacers had a total of eight.
William Peace (2-1, 1-1 USA South) got on the board early with a goal in the 8th minute off a rebound shot that had been originally saved by Kinkopf. The Pacers were able to extend their lead to 2-0 before the half with a goal in the 26th minute. In the second half, the Pacers added goals in the 49th and 79th minutes to close out the game.
The Cougars take the pitch again Feb. 27th when they travel to Greensboro College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
