FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Averett University men's lacrosse program dropped its conference opener 19-8 against Methodist University on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
Averett (4-2) struck first as freshman Liam Taylor scored in the first quarter of action giving the Cougars a 1-0 advantage. Taylor tallied three goals along with five ground balls.
Methodist (3-2) evened the score up at one before heading into the second quarter of play. The Monarchs opened up the second quarter on a 7-point scoring run before Taylor could stop the bleeding for the Cougars. Junior Parker Corbett also scored before heading into halftime trailing 9-3. Corbett scored two goals while adding two assists and three ground balls.
The Cougars were held scoreless in the third and faced a 13-3 deficit headed into the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Connor Taff scored two of his three goals in the final period while also adding five ground balls.
The Cougars are back at home this Wednesday when they host Greensboro College at 3 p.m.
