Women's tennis opens conference play with dominating win over Mary Baldwin

Box Score STAUNTON, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis program notched its first conference victory of the year 9-0 over Mary Baldwin University on Monday afternoon at Mary Baldwin's Tennis Courts. 

Averett (3-2, 1-0 USA South) began conference play in dominate fashion winning each singles match in straight sets. Mary Baldwin (0-6, 0-2 USA South) only earned set-points on the score sheet at No. 1 and No. 5 singles.

At No. 1 singles, senior Louise Hovhammer won the first singles match of the day 6-0, 6-1. Senior Eleanor Crane, junior Inka Zeilstra, and freshman Paula Ryhsen all won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles, respectively. 

At No. 5 singles, sophomore Alejandra Garcia earned a victory winning 6-0, 6-1. Rounding out singles play, sophomore Nakia-Lee Goodall won her No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Averett also dominated doubles taking every match. In No. 1 doubles, Hovhammer and Crane cruised to a 8-0 victory which was the first doubles match to conclude. At No. 2 doubles, Zeilstra and Goodall rolled to a 8-0 victory while Ryhsen and Garcia also earned a 8-0 victory at the No. 3 doubles. 

The Cougars are back in action when they host Bluefield College Thursday at 1 p.m.
