RALIEGH, N.C. — The Averett University women's tennis team cruised past William Peace University 6-1 at the Lions Park Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
William Peace (1-4, 0-3 USA South) essentially started the match leading 1-0 as the Cougars fell by default in No. 5 singles. Also each team had no player at the No. 3 doubles slot as well as the No. 6 singles match.
Averett (8-4, 4-2 USA South) earned two points in doubles action as the senior duo of Louise Hovhammar and Eleanor Crane earned an 8-4 victory. At No. 2 doubles, the pairing of freshman Paula Ryhsen and sophomore Alejandra Garcia rolled to an 8-1 win.
In singles play, the Cougars earned victories in each match as Hovhammar won 6-4, 6-2, in No. 1 singles action. Crane, Ryhsen, and Garcia, all earned wins in straight sets as well at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Averett returns to action Monday, at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Southern Virginia University.
