ASHLAND, Va. — Averett University had six student-athletes earn 2020-21 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team, which was announced Thursday. Women's tennis seniors

Elizabeth Peasley and softball junior
Hannah Thompson all were honored from Averett.
There were 37 schools represented and 220 student-athletes honored. Honorees have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher, and are sophomores or higher.
Thompson, a native of Pelham, North Carolina, has a 3.93 cumulative grade point average while majoring in accounting. She earned 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference accolades in the classroom while also receiving 2021 USA South All-Conference East Division First Team recognition at shortstop. On the diamond, she played in 23 games while batting .344 with 22 hits, including six doubles, one triple and one home run. She also totaled a team-high 14 RBIs with 11 runs scored and a .516 slugging percentage. Thompson went 3-3 in the circle with a 2.84 earned run average and one save in 10 appearances, including six starts while pitching 44.1 innings with 19 strikeouts. Thompson received the Junior Female Top GPA Award at Averett's Night of Champions and earned VaSID Academic All-State honors for the second consecutive year.
Martherus, a native of Nieuwegein, Netherlands, has totaled a 3.95 grade point average while majoring in biomedical sciences. A two-time VaSID Academic All-State Selection, he earned 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference honors as well. On the court, he was named to the 2021 USA South All-Conference East Division Honorable Mention Team while going 5-6 in singles action and 6-7 in doubles play for the Cougars, who finished as the runner-up in the division. Martherus also received the men's tennis service award at Averett's Night of Champions this spring.
Hovhammar, a native of Vaxjo, Sweden, graduated with a 3.91 grade point average while majoring in marketing and earned 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference honors. This season, she was named to the USA South All-Conference First Team and East Division First Team, as well as the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team. During the season, Hovhammar went 10-6 overall in singles, including a 10-4 mark at No. 1 singles and finished 10-7 overall in doubles, including 9-6 at No. 1 doubles. She was selected as ITA Division III Player of the Week once and chosen as USA South Player of the Week once and named to the USA South Doubles Team of the Week once.
Crane, a native of Tallwood, Australia, graduated with a 3.83 grade point average while majoring in psychology. She earned 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference honors with distinction as well. On the court, Crane went 7-8 at No. 2 singles while going 10-7 in No. 1 doubles action while being named to the USA South All-Conference East Division Second Team. She also received the women's tennis service award at Averett's Night of Champions ceremony.
Blick, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, has a 3.82 GPA in computer science and earned 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference accolades. Blick was voted to the 2020-21 VaSID All-State Second Team at midfield, was named to the USA South Conference East Division Second Team and was selected as Averett's Junior Male Athlete of the Year at Night of Champions. On the pitch, Blick plated in seven games and led the Cougars with three goals, including one game-winner. He tied for the team lead with six points.
Peasley, a native of Wilmington, North Carolina, finished her undergraduate career with a 3.62 GPA in criminal justice and earned 2020-21 USA South Academic All-Conference honors. Peasley was named to the USA South All-Conference First Team and East Division First Team this spring after leading the team and conference with 72 goals. She finished third in the nation in goals and top 25 in points, led the team with 77 points(second in the USA South) and finished third in the conference with 76 draw controls and second with 116 shots. Peasley was named USA South Player of the Week on Feb. 22, April 5 and April 19, named IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 23, and she broke the USA South single-game goal and points record with 14 goals and 16 points against N.C. Wesleyan College on April 17. She was also named Averett Junior Female Athlete of the Year at Night of Champions.
