HARRISONBURG, Va. — Averett University women's golf made its program debut on Monday during the first round of the Bridgewater College Invitational hosted at Lakeview Golf Club.
Freshman
Lilli Caroline Tamburstuen, whose tee shot on No. 11 in a shutgun start made history, led the Cougars with an 8-over-par 80. Her score puts her in a tie for eighth overall through 18 holes on the par-72, 5,614-yard course.
Freshman
Becky Murray also had a solid opening round, carding a 15-over 87 to put her in a tie for 23rd in the 47-person field.
Tamburstuen is eight shots back of leader Emily Brubaker of University of Lynchburg, who shot an even-par 72 to give her a three-stroke lead over two others. Lynchburg leads the field by two strokes as a team.
The day was monumental for Averett, which officially teed off for the first time since the program's addition was announced in December 2020.
