DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University football head coach Patrick Henry announced the addition of Matt Ford as offensive coordinator with the program. Ford will also coach the offensive line for the Cougars.

Ford comes to Averett from Division I Bucknell University, where he coached tight ends and tackles for three seasons from 2019-21 and served as the program's recruiting coordinator. Prior to joining Bucknell's staff, Ford was the tight ends coach at Division I Lehigh University  — his alma mater — during the 2018 season, and in 2017 was the tight ends/fullbacks coach at Division I Valparaiso University. Ford got his start in coaching at the Division III level at Franklin & Marshall College, where coach coached tight ends and fullbacks during the 2016 season.

"I'm really excited for this opportunity to be the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Averett," Ford said. "This is a place that has won a lot of football games in its 22-year history, and I look forward to being able to help add to the program's success."

A native of Wall, New Jersey, Ford was a four-year member of the Lehigh football program and served as a team captain his senior season. The 2015 First Team All-Patriot League selection at left guard played 30 games on the offensive line, starting his final 22 contests. Ford earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Lehigh in 2016.

"I am excited to bring Coach Ford on board here at Averett," Henry said. "He brings a different and new perspective to the offense. His start in this profession was at the Division III level working directly under one of my college teammates. He has a lot of passion, energy and ideas. His experience as an offensive lineman and a two-time conference champion will be beneficial to the position group he will be coaching, as well as our team as a whole."
