LEXINGTON Va. – Averett University men's soccer falls to No. 10 Washington and Lee University 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Averett freshman goalkeeper Lukas Hanusek had a season-high of 10 saves in the match.
In the 15th minute, Samuel Bass scored after being assisted by Michael Kutsanzira, which gave Washington and Lee (9-1-4) a 1-0 lead. Grant McCarty extended the Generals' lead to 2-0 after an assist from Park Bruner in the 24th minute. In the 40th minute, John Peterson was assisted by Sobrino Gonzalez and Harry Barrringer to increase the deficit to 3-0.
McCarty found the back of the net for the second time on the day, assisted by Weyimi Agbeyegbe to make the score 4-0.
Averett (4-7-3) gave up an own goal in the 62nd minute to push the Generals' lead to 5-0.
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to face Roanoke College.
