FERRUM, Va. – Averett men's soccer defeated Ferrum College 4-2 on Wednesday night.
Sophomore
Jonthomas Buckley scored two key goals in the match to aid the Cougars in their victory.
In the 30th minute of the match, Ferrum (4-4-2) struck first with a goal by Leo Galpin, who was assisted by Callum Harrison to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Buckley scored his first goal off of an assist by fellow Cougar
Daniel Lilley in the 51st minute to tie the game up 1-1.
Ferrum gave up an own goal in the 53rd minute, which allowed Averett (4-5-3) to take a 2-1 lead.
Buckley found the back of the net once again when he scored off of a penalty kick in the 54th minute increase the Cougar lead to 3-1.
In the 71st minute, sophomore
Orion Mills scored his third goal on the season, which gave the Cougars a 4-1 advantage.
Cannon Newell scored a goal in the 82nd minute for the Panthers, assisted by Maxwell Pheng , which reduced the Cougar lead to 4-2.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday night when they host Bridgewater College at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium for their homecoming, with a 5 p.m. start time.
