Men's tennis dominates Hampden-Sydney

Box Score HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis program rolled past Hampden-Sydney College 8-1 on Friday Afternoon.

Sophomore Josh Bottrell, senior Stan Martherus, juniors Evgeniy Bogdasaryan and Jorge Figueroa all won in straight sets during their singles match ups for the Cougars. 

Sophomore Maksim Sukhomlinov picked up the only win for the Cougars that was not in straight sets. Sukhomlinov won 2-6, 6-2, 10-5.
 
Averett (5-3) swept Hampden-Sydney (4-4) in doubles action as sophomore Rufus Nurminen and freshman Martinho Goncalves won at No. 1 doubles while Sukhomlinov and Bogdasaryan earned the win at No. 2 doubles in the tightest doubles match of the day, winning 8-6. In No. 3 doubles, Bottrell and sophomore Philipp Bohnenkamp won 8-0. 

The Cougars are back in action tomorrow when they host William Peace University at 1 p.m.
