DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's tennis rolled past Pfeiffer University 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (10-3, 4-0 USA South) built a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles win came from senior
Stan Martherus and freshman
Jay Trip winning in the tightest doubles of the day 8-7 (7-5). Junior
Jorge Figueroa and sophomore
Rufus Nurminen earned a 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles while junior
Evgeniy Bogdasaryan and sophomore
Maksim Sukhomlinov tallied a 8-2 win to wrap up doubles action.
Figueroa earned a tight win at No. 1 singles winning 6-1, 7-6 and 7-3. Martherus, Trip, and Nurminen all picked up wins in singles action in straight sets. Sophomores
Philipp Bohnenkamp and
Josh Bottrell also picked up wins for Averett in singles action.
The Cougars have won eight in a row and are back in action Wednesday when they travel to conference foe North Carolina Wesleyan College at 2 p.m.
