DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University men's soccer lost 4-2 to William Peace University on Sunday on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Inside of the first minute of the match, sophomore
Moises Garcia set the tone by scoring the first goal of the day, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
In the seventh minute, William Peace's Danny Alvarez booted in his first goal of the season, assisted by fellow Pacer Osciel Dominguez, to tie the match 1-1.
In the 31st minute, Pacer Jorge Aguilar sent the ball into the corner of the net, assisted by Josh Rutland to give William Peace (2-1-2) a 2-1 lead.
In the 40th minute, Kofi Appiagyei found the back of the net, assisted by Aguilar to put William Peace up 3-1.
In the 56th minute, Averett (1-2-2) decreased its deficit to 3-2 after a goal by freshman
Nathan Blevins, assisted by
Sebastian Weijdegaard and
Jonthomas Buckley.
In the 61st minute, Jorge Lemus scored the final goal of the match to extend the Pacer lead to 4-2.
Junior goalkeeper
Tyler Yates had seven saves on the day.
Averett returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Misenheimer, N.C., to face Pfeiffer University at 7 p.m.
