MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Averett University men's soccer earned a 3-2 win on the road against non-conference opponent Pfeiffer University on Wednesday night.
Tied 2-2, the eventual game-winner came in the 75th minute of play as Averett sophomore
Orion Mills found the back of the net after being assisted by sophomore
Oliver Kousholt. The goal gave Averett (2-2-2) the 3-2 advantage and the Cougars held off Pfeiffer (0-4-2) the rest of the way.
In the 40th minute, Pfeiffer's Ricky Hernandez-Sexton struck first in the contest, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. However, the Cougars responded in the 44th minute as Averett sophomore
Jonthomas Buckley answered back with a goal of his own to tie the match up, 1-1.
In the 46th minute, Jardim Bernardo found the back of the net, which gave Pfeiffer a 2-1 lead at the start of the second half. In the 57th minute, junior
Agustin Jaraba booted the ball into the goal to tie the Falcons once more, 2-2.
The Cougars had 18 shots on goal, which kept pressure on Pfeiffer the entire match. Freshman
Lukas Hanusek earned his first win in goal in his first career start.
Averett is back on the road on Saturday when it travels to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to face N.C. Wesleyan College at 4 p.m.
