ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Averett University men's soccer lost 3-1 in non-conference matchup vs. N.C. Wesleyan University on Saturday evening.
In the first minute of play, junior
Alexander Soerensen set the tone early when he rolled the ball by the keeper to put Averett (2-3-2) up 1-0 for his first goal of the season.
N.C. Wesleyan (2-4-1) answered back with a goal from Evann Vincenti in the 42nd minute of play.
In the last minute of the half, Santi Buccolini gave N.C. Wesleyan a 2-1 advantage after he sent the ball into to the back of the net after he was set up by teammate Andrea Lacche.
In the 77th minute, N.C. Wesleyan forward Justo Esponda booted the ball past junior goalkeeper
Tyler Yates to extend their lead to 3-1.
Sophomore
Orion Mills scored his second goal of the season in the 88th minute of play. His goal cut down the N.C. Wesleyan lead to 3-2.
Tyler Yates had four saves in the match.
Men's soccer is back in action on Wednesday at Daly Field in Frank R. Campbell Stadium when they take on their first ODAC opponent, Virginia Wesleyan University, at 4 p.m.
