FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Averett University women's tennis won a doubles draw and had two players win singles finals during Saturday's action at the ITA Fall Regionals hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
In singles and doubles, Averett went a combined 13-6 over the weekend at ITA Fall Regionals.
Senior
Alejandra Garcia and junior
Paula Ryhsen teamed up to beat University of Lynchburg's Elizabeth Teefey and Grace Teefey, 8-7 (7-3) to win the B Draw doubles finals. To reach the final, Garcia and Ryhsen knocked off Washington College's Bin Nguyen and Soleil Namunyola 8-3.
In C Draw doubles semifinals, sophomore
Keira Gunning and freshman
Brenda Poulakidas took down Stevens Institute of Technology's Polina Odintseva and Isabella Dona 8-7 (7-5). However, Gunning and Poulakidas lost a tough finals matchup 8-5 against Haverford College's Annie Barrett and Sriya Krishnan.
In singles play, three Cougars advanced to their respective finals — with two winning their draws. In the D Draw final, Poulakidas beat Dickinson College's Ariana Goitz 8-7 (6-4). Freshman
Amelie Brune also won her final in E Draw singles play. She cruised past Ursinus College's Shannon Stewart 8-2. Gunning also made the finals in C Draw, but lost a tight match 8-7 (8-6) to Haverford's Abhishree Menon.
