SALEM, Va.— Averett University's men's and women's cross country competed at the Roanoke College Cross Country Invitational on Friday night at Greenhill Park. The Cougars raced against Division II, Division III and junior college competition.
On the women's side, freshman
Gabrielle Griffin was Averett's top finisher in the 6K with a time of 28:23.5. Sophomore
Hannah Zabik finished in a time of 28:51.0, with sophomore
Kailey Gates placing two spots back in a time of 29:16.8.
Sophomore
Jackson Higgins paced Averett's men's team with a 31:35.3 time in the 8K race. Senior
Kinkade Huggins (33:34.0), sophomore
Nolan Gerwitz (34:48.3), freshman
Azael Quintero (37:23.3) and freshman
Kevannio Smith (37:43.1) also competed for the Cougars, who finished 19th in the team standings.
Averett returns to Greenhill Park on Oct. 28 for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships.
