Yates's save during penalty kick in final minute allows men's soccer to hold Hampden-Sydney to a draw

DANVILLE Va.— Averett University men's soccer drew even against Hampden-Sydney College 0-0 on Friday night on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium to kick off its homecoming weekend.

Averett (5-3-6, 2-2-4 ODAC) was tied up 0-0 in the final minute of play when Hampden-Sydney got fouled in the box, leading to a penalty kick opportunity. Senior Tyler Yates bailed his team out with an outstanding save to hold the Tigers scoreless in the match.

Averett had 18 shots in the match compared to Hampden-Sydney's 15, each team with six shots on goal. Yates had six saves in his exceptional performance. 

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday for their senior day against Johnson and Wales University at 7 p.m.
