Women's tennis competes at Methodist Fall Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- Averett University women's tennis wrapped up play at the Methodist University Fall Invite on Saturday competing against several Division II and Division III programs.  .

In singles play, the Cougars went 12-9 with senior Paula Ryhsen reached the Blue flight championship match before falling to  Claudia Zaratiegui  of Barton College 6-1, 6-3.
In the Main single consolation final sophomore Brenda Poulakidas defeated freshman Jennika Jaison via retirement. In the Blue singles consolation draw,  sophomore Harshri Asher defeated Jolie Nhouyvanisvong of Guilford College 6-2, 6-2 in the championship.

In the Pink singles consolation final, freshman  Amelie Schroeder defeated Sara Gajbhiye of University of Mount Olive 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Annika Kellerer defeated Alina Esser of Mount Olive 2-6, 6-2, 10-1 in the Purple singles third place match. Sophomore Franka Keil fell to  Katie Sechrist of Methodist in 6-3, 6-2 in the Purple singles consolation final.

Averett went 2-7 in doubles play during the weekend. Asher and Ryhsen reached the consolation final of the Main doubles draw before falling to Valeria Guerrero and Sara Gajbhiye of Mount Olive 6-1. Kellerer and Schroeder reached the Green doubles draw consolation final before falling to Emma Hulicki and Caitlin Tihanovich of Methodist 6-4. In the Main doubles draw seventh place match, Jaison and Poulakidas fell to Guilfords's Ashley Belnap and Kancie Tate 6-1.
