Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Averett University men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 season opening victory over Randolph College on Thursday. The victory marks Averett men's tennis' first conference win as Old Dominion Athletic Conference members.
Averett (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) took a 3-0 lead early in doubles play over Randolph (1-3, 0-2 ODAC). Freshman
Sam Egui and junior Phillip Bohnenkamp teamed up at No. 3 doubles for a dominate 8-0 win. Junior

Kazuki Fukushima swept their competition 8-0 for a victory at the No. 2 doubles slot. At No. 1 doubles sophomore
Shori Nishizoe and senior
Jorge Figueroa teamed up for an 8-1 win to finish off the complete sweep of doubles. The Cougars dropped just one game throughout 25 games played.
In singles action, Egui made quick work of his opponent with a sweeping 6-0, 6-0 win over Randolph's Luke Mosley at the No. 6 seed.
Bohnenkamp would clinch the decisive point for the Cougars at the No. 5 slot with a 6-1, 6-1 win over the WildCats' Jose Merhej.
Freshman
Prabjeet Chandhok cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Max Karras at No. 4 singles. Fellow freshman
Theodor Garmo took down Angelo De Asis 6-1, 6-1 to pick up a win at No. 3 singles.
Fukushima took the eighth point for the Cougars with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Dev Mani at No. 2 singles, while at the No. 1 see Figueroa took down Nicolas Alvarado 6-4, 7-5 to complete the 9-0 sweep of the WildCats.
Averett is back in action when it hosts conference foe, Guilford College on March 3 at 2:30 p.m. on the Averett Tennis Courts.
