SALISBURY, N.C. – Averett University men's tennis fell on the road to D-II Catawba College 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Catawba (4-6, 2-2 SAC) won two of the doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.
Averett's (2-2, 2-0 ODAC) No. 2 doubles team of junior Rufus Nurminen and sophomore Martinho Goncalves defeated Tyler Juergens and Paul Dekester 7-6 (6-4) in tiebreak.
In singles play, Catawba won five out of six of the sinlges points. The Cougars would find a win at No. 5 singles as freshman Kazuki Fukushima defeated Sebastian Zabala 6-2, 7-5.
Averett is back in action when it travels to No. 40 Christopher Newport University at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
