WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Averett University women's tennis defeated Winston-Salem State University 6-1 on Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated on the year.
Averett (6-0) swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point over Winston-Salem State (5-3).
Sophomore
Keira Gunning and freshman
Brenda Poulakidas teamed up at No. 1 doubles to earn a 6-2 win over Semmie Moore and MaKenna Mason.
At No. 2 doubles, senior
Alejandra Garcia and junior
Paula Ryhsen earned a dominating 6-1 victory over WSSU's Shajada Barrett and Anthonia Smith.
Freshmen duo,
Amelie Brune and
Elisa Battermann completed the sweep with their 6-3 win over Brooke Higgins and Tamia Bennett.
Averett won five out of six singles matches.
Ryhsen defeated MaKenna Mason 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while
Brenda Poulakidas picked up a smooth 6-1, 6-1 win over Shajada Barrett at No. 3.
At No. 4, Garcia defeated Anthonia Smith 6-0, 6-4. Junior transfer
Daniela Poulakidas downed Brooke Higgins 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5.
Freshman
Franka Keil picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Tamia Bennett at No. 6 singles.
Averett is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Meredith College at 2:30 p.m.
