DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University women's tennis team downed the University of Lynchburg 5-1 on Tuesday at home to advance to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals, while keeping the Hornets from advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2017.

Alejandra Garcia earned the Cougars their first point of the match with an 8-0 sweep over Lara Karrass and Alexa Hardesty at #2 doubles. Freshman
Elisa Battermann and junior
Daniela Poulakidas teamed up at #3 doubles for an 8-1 victory over Ashley Hair and Reese McAtee. Lynchburg picked up its lone point of the match in a comeback 8-6 victory at #1 doubles.

Amelie Brune swept Jordan Ottaviano 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles to earn Averett's fourth point, while
Daniela Poulakidas downed Grace Teefey 6-0, 6-1 at the #5 slot. Garcia clinched the decisive fifth point for hte Cougars with her 6-2, 6-3 victory over Alexa Hardesty.
Averett is back in action when it plays Sweet Briar College in the ODAC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday hosted at Washington and Lee University.
