DANVILLE, Va. - No. 2 seeded Averett University men's tennis swept No. 7 seeded Hampden-Sydney College 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.
Averett (13-4) easily swept all three doubles matches over Hampden-Sydney (11-12) No. 9 in the region doubles team of sophomore
Shori Nishizoe and junior
Jorge Figueroa downed Dillon McReynolds and Taylor Fox 8-4 at #2 doubles. At #1 doubles junior
Rufus Nurminen and sophomore
Martinho Goncalves defeated Barrett Foster and Casey Coffey 8-4. Freshmen duo of
Prabjeet Chandhok and
Kazuki Fukushima rolled past Carter McCleary and Cooper Brewen 8-4.
Chandhok earned the Cougars fourth point in his 6-2, 6-2 win over Coffey at #3 singles. Freshman
Theodor Garmo clinched the decisive point for Averett in his 6-1, 6-1 win over John Glassner at #6 singles.
Averett is back in action on Saturday when it plays Guilford College at Washington and Lee University in the ODAC Tournament semifinals.
