BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Averett University men's tennis swept Bridgewater College 9-0 on the road on Wednesday.
Averett (7-4, 5-1 ODAC) started things off quickly with a sweep of doubles over Bridgewater (2-10, 1-5 ODAC)
The regionally-ranked No. 10 duo of senior
Jorge Figueroa and sophomore
Shori Nishizoe topped the Eagles Matthew Leonard and Noah Hughes at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen team of
Sam Egui and
Kazuki Fukushima defeated Mark Gordon and Bryce Cline 8-3 also at No. 2. Junior
Philipp Bohnenkamp and freshman
Theodor Garmo swept Ryan Briggman and Nicholas Arnold 8-0.
Figueroa took down Leonard 6-2, 6-2 at the top seed, freshman
Prabjeet Chandhok cruised to a clean 6-0, 6-0 win over Gordon at No. 2 singles.
Fukushima defeated Cline 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 while Bohnenkamp handed Briggman a 6-1, 6-0 loss at the No. 4 slot.
Egui and Garmo both swept their opponents at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Averett is back in action when it hosts Shaw at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
