Women's soccer shuts out Pfeiffer in season opener

DANVILLE, Va. - Averett University women's soccer opened up its 2023 season with a shutout 3-0 victory over Pfeiffer University on Daly Field Friday night.

Junior Celia de Diego totaled five points for the Cougars. She notched two goals one in the 55th minute and another in the 85th minute that was assisted by junior Asia Williams, de Diego also had one assist in the match. Freshman Leah Brethen scored Averett's first goal of the season in the 22nd minute of play from sophomore Isobel Evans and de Diego.

Freshman goalkeeper Tiia Chrons made one save while splitting time between the pipes with fellow freshman Krista Hinebaugh.

Averett returns to action Wednesday, September 6th when it travels to Fayetteville, N.C. to face Methodist University at 6 p.m.
