GREENSBORO N.C. — Averett University men's soccer defeated Guilford College on Wednesday night 3-1 for its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season.
The game was tied until the 63rd minute in the match until redshirt senior
Daniel Starr scored his fourth goal of the season following an assist from junior
Oliver Kousholt.
Guilford (2-5-0, 0-1-0 ODAC) struck first in the match with a goal in the final minute of the half to lead Averett (4-1-2, 1-0-0 ODAC)1-0. Junior
Jonthomas Buckley tied the match up in the 57th minute of play off of a pass from Starr. In the final few minutes of the match Buckley found the back of the net once more to give the Cougars a 3-1 advantage after an assist from sophomore
Diego Giffuni.
Averett had 11 shots on goal in the match. Sophomore
Anibal Lopez had three saves.
The Cougars are back in action when they travel to face Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
