GREENSBORO, N.C.- Averett University women's basketball dropped its opening game of 2024 at Guilford College on Wednesday 74-59.
Despite scoring 26 points in the fourth quarter, Averett's (4-10, 2-4 ODAC) comeback fell short to Guilford (9-3, 4-2) as the Quakers scored over 20 points in two of the four quarters.
Senior
Jihnez Hutchinson lead the Cougars scoring efforts, earning a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman
Emma Jones scored a career-high nine points while going three of four from the three-point arc. Sophomore
Brianna Sams also chipped in nine points.
As a team, the Cougars out-rebounded the Quakers 59-46. Averett held Guilford to just a 16 three-point percentage in the game.
The Cougars are back in action Friday at home against Bridgewater College at 7 p.m.
