LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University women's soccer dropped its conference road trip to the University of Lynchburg, 5-0.
Averett (3-7-2, 2-4-0 ODAC) took the short trip to face conference foe Lynchburg (7-4-2, 4-0-1 ODAC) and came out with the short end of the stick.
The Hornets drew first blood and never looked back. Lynchburg grabbed the lead in the 17th minute after putting consistent pressure on the Averett defense from the opening whistle. Lynchburg would keep up the attacking excellence, tacking on two more goals in the first half, with the scoreboard showing 3-0 at halftime.
The second 45 minutes featured a similar storyline, with the Cougars' defense tightening up to give up two goals, before the final whistle closed the book on the game, 5-0, for the Hornets.
While the score might not reflect it, sophomore Tiia Chrons put forth a valiant effort between the pipes. Chrons stopped 11 shots, coming in just two saves shy of the season-high mark for the Cougars.
Averett is back at it for another conference date on home turf, with Virginia Wesleyan University set to visit for a Sunday matinee as the Cougars are bookending Homecoming festivities with the 2 p.m. kickoff.
