The Series: Averett and Hampden-Sydney have crossed paths since 1980, playing 29 contests against each other. The Tigers hold a 18-7-4 ledger versus the Cougars, but Averett has had the upper hand since 2019. In their past four matchups, the Cougars have not lost, winning two and drawing two versus their conference opponent. The last time they met, the two squads played to a scoreless tie in Danville, Virginia.
Averett at a Glance: Averett University men's soccer took their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the season in dominant fashion, highlighted by a six-goal second half to down visiting Guilford College, 7-2 on Wednesday night. At a 2-1 deficit heading into the final frame of action, Averett stormed back with six unanswered scores to take a crucial victory, as the Cougars continue to fight for playoff contention in the conference.
Max Gaudry was the highlight, netting Averett's first hat trick this season, but also for the first time in over seven years. David Cooperman was the last to achieve this feat at Greensboro on Sept. 22, 2017. Averett achieved their fourth-straight game with 10 or more shots, with 19, including an efficient 15 shots on goal.
Tyler Yates added to his save tally on the year with two versus the Quakers.
Hampden-Sydney at a Glance: Hampden-Sydney College fell 2-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action to the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night at Shellenberger Field. The Hornets grabbed the first goal of the game in the first half and followed it up with a second goal just over three minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. The Tigers got a shot on target in the half, but it was saved to keep the game a 2-0 into the break. Lynchburg had the advantage in shots with 14 compared to three for the Tigers, and shots on targets with 10 compared to two for H-SC. Senior goalie Wills Huddleston made eight saves in the loss.
