SALEM, Va. — Averett University men's and women's cross country both placed ninth at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships.
The women's team kicked the days events off with a 6K run. The Cougars totaled 251 team points to come away with a ninth-place result, 23 points behind Randolph College. Sophomore
Gabrielle Griffin led the way for Averett, placing 57th with a time of 25:16.6. Junior
Alheli Ramos-Garcia followed behind for the Cougars, with a time of 27:14.1, and an 80th-place finish. Junior
Kailey Gates rounded out the top three for the women's team, placing 82nd with a time of 27:58.7.
Averett's men took the stage second on the day to run an 8K. The team tallied a score of 267 points to take home ninth place, 33 points being Virginia Wesley University and 35 points ahead of Ferrum College. Freshman
Hunter Moss paced the Cougars as he ran to a 38th-place finish, clocking a time of 26:45.3. Senior
Jaden Carter followed, as a time of 31:50.1 placed him 92nd. Sophomore
Azael Quintero closed out the top three for the men's squad, Quintero scored a 97th-place finish with a time of 32:24.2.
The NCAA South Regional Championships are up next on the slate for Averett's cross country program. The championship event is hosted in Clinton, Mississippi, on Nov. 16, with the start time still to be announced.Â
