Women's volleyball falls to Berry, Christopher Newport on Day 2 of CNU Invitational

Virginia Beach, Va. -- Averett University (12-18, 6-6 ODAC) women's volleyball faced tough competition at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Saturday, falling 0-3 to Berry College (13-12, 9-3 SAA) and 1-3 to Christopher Newport University (21-19, 0-0 C2C).

In the first match against Berry, the Cougars were able to trail the Vikings throughout Set 2, going back and forth with taking leads before ultimately falling 36-34. The Vikings took Set 1 and 2 25-13 and 25-12. 

Graduate student Emma Nash showed out, tallying 11 kills for the Cougars' offense. Fifth-year Destiny McIntosh was not far behind with 10 kills. Junior Dayton Moore had 14 assists, while fellow setter senior Kinsley Stevens had 10. Fifth-year libero Erin Gray carried the Cougars' defense with 15 digs. 

In the second match, Averett faced Christopher Newport in a close match. The Cougars took the first set 25-18, before Christopher Newport made a comeback, taking sets 3, 4, and 5 25-22, 28-26, 25-11. 

McIntosh and Nash tallied 11 kills a piece, while Sophomore Sydney Mounce had 10. Stevens stayed on her grind recording 18 assists, while Moore had 15. Gray continued to hold the Vikings offense with a team-high 33 digs. Senior Kayleigh Gentry recorded 16 digs, while Stevens had 15 and McIntosh had 10.
