FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Averett University men's basketball lost 78-44 to University of Mary Washington in non-conference action Thursday night.
Averett (5-5) jumped out to an early 6-2 lead thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from senior
Bryce Shaw. However, Mary Washington (5-4) strung together a 14-0 run midway through the first period to take control on its way to a 40-24 halftime lead.
Mary Washington began to pull away after halftime, starting the period on a 13-4 run. The Eagles benefitted from a 33-8 margin on points off turnovers after forcing 22.
Shaw led Averett with 14 points, while freshman
Mason Mitchell totaled 11 points. Freshman
Colton Price chipped in six points for the Cougars, who were without leading scorer
Jamison Graves.
Averett breaks for the holidays before returning home to play Pfeiffer University on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. in the Grant Center.
