RALEIGH, N.C.- Averett University women's tennis suffered a season-opening 5-2 loss as Division II Shaw University on Thursday.

Siddhi Khandelwal picked up a 7-6(7-4) win at No. 1 doubles over Eni Anic and Veronika Philippova. At No. 2 doubles sophomore
Elisa Battermann and freshman
Dilara Sultanova earned a 7-6 (7-5) win over Shaw's Prerana Koirola and Jessica Michielli.
The Cougars lone singles win came from Sultanova at the No. 4 singles slot where she picked up a 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 win over Marija Ristanovic.
Averett is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Lynchburg at 1 p.m.
