BANNER ELK, N.C. - Averett University men's lacrosse opened its 2024 season with a 17-2 loss at Division II Lees-McRae College on Saturday.
Lees-McRae (1-0) opened up on a 5-0 run before sophomore
Emmett Wood scored Averett's (0-1) first goal of the season at 6:16 in the second period. Averett trailed 7-1 going into halftime. The Bobcats scored six unanswered goals before junior
Brayton Powers scored with two seconds left in the second period from freshman
Tigran Ceesay. Lees-McRae scored scored six-straight goals to win 17-2.
Powers, Wood and Ceesay each tallied one point in the outing. Sophomore goalkeeper
Cameron Prutzman made 17 saves inside the cage for the Cougars. Averett's defense had five caused turnovers while the offense had 13 shots with six being on goal.
Averett is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Life University at 2 p.m.
