Women's volleyball defeats Piedmont in straight sets to wrap up Berry College Invitational

Rome, Ga – Averett University's volleyball team delivered a strong performance, sweeping the Lions of Piedmont Univeristy in a decisive 3-0 match at the Berry College Invitational on Saturday. The Cougars claimed the sets 26-24, 25-11, and 25-15, improving their season record to 3-7.

Fifth year Destiny McIntosh and Sophomore Sydney Mounce led the offensive charge for Averett, each tallying 7 kills. McIntosh hit an efficient .250, while Mounce recorded a .267 hitting percentage. Graduate student Emma Nash added valuable contributions with 7 kills and 2 service aces, finishing with a total of 10.5 points. The team showcased a balanced attack, hitting .148 overall and keeping the pressure on their opponent throughout the match.

Fifth year libero Erin Gray orchestrated the offense with 6 assists, while junior Dayton Moore anchored the defense with an impressive 13 digs. Senior Kinsley Stevens also played a key role, adding 9 assists and 2 service aces. The Cougars' aggressive serving game paid off with a total of 7 aces in the match.

After a closely contested first set that saw 6 tie scores and 3 lead changes, Averett took control, dominating the second set 25-11. They maintained their momentum in the third set, closing out the match with a 25-15 victory.

Averett will be back home on Sept 18 when they face the Quakers of Guilford College at 6 p.m.
