DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University men's soccer battled 90 minutes with visiting Methodist University, but neither side gained an advantage as the squads drew 0-0 on Sunday afternoon at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
The contest gained intensity in the second half, with both sides scrapping for a change in result, but to no avail. The Cougars (3-1-2) totaled four shots compared to 16 for the Monarchs (1-3-2). Graduate student backstop
Tyler Yates defended the net convincingly, making two key saves throughout the game.
This contest marks only the second scoreless tie in the teams' history, the other coming in a matchup dating back to 1981, where Averett and Methodist drew in a two-overtime thriller.
The Cougars hit the road next on Wednesday, Sept. 18, for a non-conference dual versus Randolph-Macon College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
