MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Freshman
Leandre Tyssandier repeated similar clutch feats from nights prior, as the Averett University men's soccer team recovered from a goal deficit to win 3-2 on the road at Pfeiffer University on Tuesday night.
Off a long pass from sophomore defender
Jaime Vazquez Sanjurjo, Tyssandier took a good first touch on his way to goal, and found his spot in the bottom right corner in the 65th minute to break a 2-2 tie for Averett (2-1). This goal marked his second game-winner in the span of three games, after he scored the go-ahead goal late in the opener against William Peace University.
It took just under nine minutes for Pfeiffer (0-1) to open the scoring, as Wesley Hooker maneuvered his way round the keeper for the empty-netter. Averett had an immediate reply just a minute later when junior
Daniel Lilley sent in across from the right that found an open
Max Gaudry at the far left of the penalty box, and the sophomore midfielder headed the ball into the bottom right corner to level the contest at 1-1.
In a first half of effective crossing, Benji Landaverde was left open in the penalty box and slotted home a header in the 14th minute to put the Falcons back into the lead. The Cougars were able to draw a penalty close to halftime due to a Pfeiffer handball at the 40-minute mark. Junior midfielder
Jonthomas Buckley knotted the ball through from 12 yards out to tie the game for the second time in the half at 2-2 apiece.
Fifth-year goalkeeper
Tyler Yates made two saves in the contest for the Cougars.
Averett returns to the field on Saturday, Sept. 7, finishing its road trip with a visit to Brevard, North Carolina, to play Brevard College. Kickoff against the Tornados is set for 3 p.m.
