FOREST, Va. – For the second time this fall, Averett University men's soccer senior
Anibal Lopez was chosen as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The netminder from Vigo, Spain helped Averett manage a win and draw versus a pair of ODAC opponents last week. Versus Roanoke on Oct. 8, Lopez managed nine saves in a shutout of the Maroons, the most important being a penalty save early in the contest. Against Bridgewater on Oct. 11, Lopez kept the Eagles at bay to help the Cougars manage a 2-2 draw with six stops.
The award marks Lopez's second since Sept. 22, becoming the first in program history to achieve multiple conference defensive player of the week awards since Nate Barker '13, when he did so during the 2012 season.
Lopez currently leads the ODAC in saves and saves per game with 71 and 6.45, respectively; and is tied for second in shutouts with five.
