Cross country wraps up competition at Roanoke's South Region Showdown

SALEM, Va. — Averett University cross country competed in the Roanoke College Invitational South Region Showdown on Saturday.

The men's team took to the track first, getting the morning started with an 8K. Junior Azael Quintero continued to pace the Cougars, crossing the line as the first Averett finisher with a time of 30:30.6, good for 177th-place. Freshman Brett Foley followed, finishing in 218th with a time of 34:01.0. Junior Ke'Vannio Smith rounded out Averett's three best, finishing in 37:48.4 for 232nd-place.

Junior Gabrielle Griffin was Averett's only entry on the women's side. Griffin finished strong yet again, scoring a 43rd-place result amidst a strong field, posting a time of 24:10.7.

Averett cross country will be back on track for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m.
