LYNCHBURG, Va. – Averett University men's soccer lost 9-0 at the University of Lynchburg, ranked No. 23 in the Division III United Soccer Coaches poll, on Saturday afternoon.
Averett (2-4-3, 0-2-0 ODAC) kept the contest close through 14 minutes, before Lynchburg's (8-0-2, 3-0-0 ODAC) Izaack Cruz broke the stalemate. A trio of goals ensued for the Hornets through the remainder of the first half.
Ranked Lynchburg pulled in the second half to seal the victory.
Anibal Lopez recorded his career high in saves in a Division III contest with 11.
The Cougars return back home to Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 8, hosting the Maroons of Roanoke College for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
