DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — Averett University men's golf freshman
Chase Myers shot 3-under in the second round to put him into a tie for fourth place after Monday's opening 36 rounds at the West Pines Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University.
Myers, the reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week after winning last week's Glory Days Invitational, sits at 1-under for the tournament. Myers' first round of the day ended at 2-over, but he got stronger as the day progressed. Highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 No. 17, Myers shot a 3-under 68 in Round 2 on the par-71, 6,739-yard course at West Pines Golf Club. Myers is six strokes off the lead held by Mary Hardin-Baylor University's Colton O'Dell, who shot 6-under in the second round to put him at 7-under entering Tuesday's final round.
A strong second round helped Averett surge up the team leaderboard on Monday. The Cougars shot a collective 1-under on their second 18 holes of the day to put them at 15-over for the tournament and in seventh place among the 21-team tournament. Rhodes College leads the field at 6-under and holds a 10-stroke lead as the only team below par through 36 holes.
