BELMONT, N.C. – Averett women's tennis secured 12 wins from 20 tries on Thursday at the Belmont Abbey College Invitational, playing versus the likes of Piedmont University, Belmont Abbey, and Division-II Wingate University. 

Averett began the afternoon by running out two lineups versus Piedmont University. The number one team split their doubles matches, with Elisa Battermann and Brenda Poulakidas defeating Halee Harper and Sarah Sanabia, 6-4. The Cougars' second lineup won both of their matches to open the afternoon, first with Ella Boddington and Ravaka Ramanantoanina beating Jordan Ballard and Amanda Barrett, 6-2, and the duo of Amelie Schroeder and Harshri Asher winning against Drea Robinson and Addyson Willis, 6-3.

In singles, Averett combined to take five of six from the Lions, capped off by a come-from-behind victory from sophomore Mirte Post. Post lost the first set 6-3 versus Sanabia, then rolled back to win the match 6-3, then 14-12 in the super-tiebreak third set. 

The 3 p.m. session featured the Cougars versus hosts Belmont Abbey, and Division-II Wingate. Against the Bulldogs, Averett managed to squeak out a doubles win, as Poulakidas and Sunna Maass took out Brooke LaFrenz and Gigi Hinson, 6-3.

The battle against the Crusaders went the way of the Cougars. Jennika Jaison and Siddhi Khot secured a doubles split by defeating Alexandra Wright and Carola Maturana Gonzalez, 6-1. Averett then won two out of the three singles matches to cap off the day, with Asher and Schroeder on the winning side once more. 

The Cougars wrap up play tomorrow with four more matches, the first two being versus Belmont Abbey and Wingate. Start times are set for 8 a.m.
