WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Averett University men's wrestling competed at the Penn College Duals on Saturday, where they fell to Alvernia University 22-19 and the Pennsylvania College of Technology 30-14.
The Cougars (4-3, 2-0 ODAC) opened the day against Alvernia (3-0, 1-0 ECAC), picking up one major decision, two decisions and one tie-breaker.
At 125 pounds, junior Adrian Samano defeated Alvernia's Ethan Staples by an 18-5 major decision, increasing his season record to 9-1. Junior 133 pounder AJ Orlando III won by decision.
Senior Xavier Swanson pinned Alvernia's Jacob Eubaugh in one minute and 44 seconds at 165 pounds to also earn a 9-1 record so far this season. Senior Michael Gabbard earned a 5-0 record, winning a tie-breaker 2-1 over Alvernia.
Senior Jacob Jimenez earned the final three points for Averett with a 4-2 decision at 197 pounds.
For the final dual of the day, Averett faced the Pennsylvania College of Technology (1-1, 0-0 AMCC), earning one fall and two major decisions.
Samano earned his tenth consecutive win of the season, pinning Penn College's Justin Adams in a little over two minutes. Swanson and Gabbard won at 165 and 174 pounds respectively with one major decision each.
The Cougars return to Pennsylvania on December 5 and 6 to compete at the Messiah Petrifies Invitational beginning at noon.
