Mukkaladyil, Bert, Poole garner major awards as seven Cougars earn All-ODAC honors for men's tennis

FOREST, Va. — Averett University men's tennis headlined three of the four major awards as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its annual honors on Tuesday afternoon. Head coach Bert Poole was named ODAC Coach of the Year, freshman Florian Bert was named ODAC Co-Rookie of the Year and senior Jaeden Mukkaladyil received the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year as seven players combined to earn six All-ODAC accolades.

Mukkaladyil was named to the All-ODAC First Team at No. 2 singles, while junior Prabjeet Chandhok earned All-ODAC First Team at No.4 singles. Averett earned All-ODAC Second Team singles recognition at No. 5 with freshman Rafael Jodas and at No. 6 with freshman Lucas Fiandra. Jodas and junior Sam Egui earned All-ODAC Second Team at No. 2 doubles, while Bert and junior Alex Donnelly earned All-ODAC Second Team at No. 3 doubles.

Poole, in his 10th season as head coach of the program, earned his first ODAC Coach of the Year nod after guiding the Cougars to the 2025 ODAC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament berth, a national ranking as high as No. 33 and record of 17-5 (8-1 ODAC). His Cougars snapped Washington and Lee University's 14-year run as champions by beating the Generals in the ODAC finals, then picked up the program's first NCAA Tournament win since 2000 to advance to the second round.

Mukkaladyil's selection as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year marks the third consecutive year an Averett men's tennis player has earned the honor after former standout Philipp Bohnenkamp received the honor the past two seasons. Mukkaladyil, who also earned All-ODAC honors for the second consecutive season, tallied the most singles wins on the team with a 20-5 record, including a 16-3 record at No. 2 singles. The native of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, also went 14-10 in doubles matches, primarily at the No. 1 spot. Mukkaladyil's other accolades include being named the Senior Male Class Athlete of the Year award and receiving the Senior Male GPA Award at Averett's Night of Champions and being selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.

Chandhok, a native of Mumbai, India, earned All-ODAC honors for the second year in a row as well. He finished with a 16-7 record in singles with a 12-3 record playing at No. 4.

Fiandra, a native of Montevideo, Uraguay, went 13-8 in singles matches primarily at No. 6 singles, while Jodas, a native of São Paulo, Brazil, tied for the second-most singles wins on the team while going 16-4 to earn all-conference honors at No. 5.

Jodas teamed up with Egui to go 14-6 this season in doubles, with an 11-6 mark at No. 2 Bert and Donnelly finished 9-4 as a doubles tandem, including a 7-4 mark at No. 3.

Averett earned seven all-conference selections for the second consecutive season.
