DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University announced the promotion of Tim Krotish to head coach of the women's basketball program on Thursday as Desireé Driver resigned to pursue another coaching opportunity.

Krotish, who has more than 30 years of coaching experience, had served as an assistant coach with program since the 2023-24 season.

"We are excited to elevate Tim Krotish to head coach of our women's basketball program," Averett Director of Athletics Danny Miller said. "Tim's been an integral part of our program the past two seasons as an assistant coach and provides a seamless transition for our team moving forward. His decades of experience as a head coach give him the tools for success in developing our student-athletes on and off the court."

Krotish came to Averett following a successful career as head coach of Eastern Alamance High School's girls' basketball team from 1993-2023 before retiring from teaching history in spring 2023. He served as the junior varsity head coach from 1993-94 before taking over the varsity program in 1994. He led the Eagles to numerous conference championships while consistently making the state playoffs. Krotish was also named coach of the year multiple times during his tenure. Also, he served as assistant athletic director at Eastern Alamance and also was an assistant coach for football from 1993-2003.

Krotish earned his bachelor's degree from Elon University in 1990 and earned his teaching certificate from North Carolina Central University in 1992.

"I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to be the head women's basketball coach at Averett University," Krotish said. "I want to thank Desireé Driver for giving me a chance as an assistant coach, Danny Miller for his support and President Dr. Thomas Powell for allowing this to happen. I can't wait for the team to get back on campus and to get started."

Krotish takes over the program from Driver, who guided the program for four seasons. Driver produced one all-conference performer in 2021-22, and her 2022-23 team ranked in the top 10 nationally in offensive rebounding.

"It has been an honor to serve as the head women's basketball coach at Averett University," Driver said. "I'm proud of what we've built and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have led such a resilient group of young women. This chapter has shaped me both professionally and personally, and I leave with deep appreciation for the lessons learned and the relationships formed."

The Averett women's basketball team is scheduled to open the season Nov. 11 at home against Greensboro College.
