HARRISONBURG, Va. — Averett University senior
Sophia Marshall is tied for 11th place as the Cougars opened play at the Bridgewater College Invitational Monday at Lakeview Golf Course. As a team, Averett sits in fourth place.
Marshall opened the first round with a 9-over-par 81 on the par-72, 5,658-yard course to lead the Cougars, who shot a collective 49-over as a team. Sophomore
Meredith Pegram is one shot back at 10-over in 14th place. Senior
Hannah Walton is also inside the top 24 after finishing the first round at 14-over. Junior
Cooper Perryman sits at 16-over and senior
Madison Masoudpour shot 25-over during the first 18 holes of play.
Virginia Wesleyan University's Juliette Coffey and Southern Virginia University's CC Banz are tied for the top spot individually at 2-over, one shot ahead of Southern Virginia's Sydney Richards. The Knights lead the field at 19-over as a team, with Virginia Wesleyan 10 strokes back at 29-over. Host Bridgewater is in third place, one shot ahead of Averett at 48-over.
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday
