Men’s tennis opens action at Methodist Fall Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Averett University men's tennis played through multiple rounds of singles matches to complete Day 1 from the Methodist University Fall Invitational at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.  Collectively, the Cougars were victors in nine out of 16 total matches on Friday, as three players qualified for their respective flight finals. 

Lucas Fiandra, Alex Rudy and Roger Pamies Petit all went two for two in singles matches to set up finals appearances to be played the following afternoon.

Semifinals - West
Florian Bert defeated F. Foss (Barton College) 7-5, 7-5

Flight 3
Quarterfinals – East
Lucas Fiandra defeated D. Rodriguez (Barton College) 6-3, 6-2
Semifinals – East
Lucas Fiandra defeated L. Oosehuizen (University of Mount Olive) 6-2, 6-4

Flight 4 
Quarterfinals – East
Alex Rudy defeated S. Pearson (Mount Olive) 6-1, 6-2
Sam Egui defeated H. Wik (Barton), 6-2, 6-2
Semifinals – East
Alex Rudy defeated L. Romero (Belmont Abbey College) 6-2, 6-3

Flight 5 
Quarterfinals – East
Roger Pamies Petit defeated W. Drake (Barton) 7-5, 7-5
Alex Donnelly defeated E. Oye (Guilford College) 6-1, 6-3
Semifinals – East
Roger Pamies Petit defeated J. Womble (Mount Olive) 6-3, 7-6 (2)

Day 2 of the Methodist Invitational will feature the entirety of doubles flights, plus the last rounds of singles matches. Start time for the first matches is set for 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6.
